MaxwellDr. Maxwell has been the Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Inova Fairfax Hospital since his retirement as a Colonel from the U.S. Army in 2011. Dr Maxwell serves as the co-Director of the DOD Gynecologic Cancer Translation Research Center of Excellence and is a Professor in the Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine.  He has published over 110 manuscripts and chapters, and received numerous national research awards by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.

Dr Maxwell has played a lead role in the Foundation for Women’s Cancer National Race to End Women’s Cancer and other advocacy efforts related to the Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Movement. He serves as a member of the Foundation for Women’s Cancer Board of Directors.

Awareness

The CDC recently announced that fewer than half of American children are given the HPV vaccination.

Research

As of the July 23 deadline, 55 research abstracts were submitted in hopes of receiving one of only 6 grants from the Foundation. This points to a need for more funding so that the Foundation may award grants to every deserving applicant.
