John C. Elkas, MD, JD

New York Medical College

ElkasDr. Elkas earned his Bachelor’s degree at Dartmouth College and his medical degree at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York, He then completed his residency at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Elkas went on to complete a Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles, California. He then served as Director of Gynecologic Services at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Elkas left active duty military service in 2006 and joined Mid-Atlantic Pelvic Surgery Associates in Washington, DC.

He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Elkas is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Elkas also received a Juris Doctorate from the Columbus School of Law with an emphasis in Health Law. He is currently a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve.

The CDC recently announced that fewer than half of American children are given the HPV vaccination.

Research

As of the July 23 deadline, 55 research abstracts were submitted in hopes of receiving one of only 6 grants from the Foundation. This points to a need for more funding so that the Foundation may award grants to every deserving applicant.
