Karen J. Carlson

Executive Director

CarlsonMs. Carlson has served as the executive director for the Foundation for Women’s Cancer since its founding in 1991.

She is a 1987 graduate of Illinois State University with a B.S In Public Relations. She began her career at the Smith Bucklin and Associates Management Firm, where she worked with the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and served as the executive director for the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons.

In 2005 Ms. Carlson was selected as one of the 100 women in the country who love their jobs and was featured in “Be Happy at Work: 100 Women Who Love Their Jobs and Why,” and “Career Bliss.” Both books were written by Joanne Gordon, a writer for Forbes Magazine.

Gynecologic oncologists discuss some of the most important research presented at the 2016 SGO Annual Meeting in San Diego. Ovarian cancer survivor and patient advocate Jocelyn Alfandre (pictured) was a featured speaker at the Annual Meeting.
