Community Outreach during the 2018 SGO Annual Meeting
Community outreach played an important role in the 2018 Society of Gynecologic Oncology Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer, held March 24-27 in New Orleans. In this video, William “Rusty” Robinson, MD, from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, discusses a full-day Ovarian Cancer Survivors Course. Jennifer Young Pierce, MD, from South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile, AL, explains the importance of an outreach session with health care providers on HPV vaccination to prevent cervical and related cancers. Liane Troy, ovarian cancer survivor and patient advocate, describes her initial impressions of the SGO Annual Meeting from a patient’s perspective.
Registration open for upcoming ovarian cancer education courses
The Foundation has opened registration for an April 28 patient education course in Duarte, CA, and a May 5 course in Rochester, MN. Both courses are geared towards ovarian cancer survivors, family, friends and other supporters who are interested in learning more about the disease from the leading cancer experts in the United States. Local physicians, researchers and other members of the cancer care team will share the latest information about ovarian cancer research and clinical trials. This full-day session includes continental breakfast and lunch. The course is free. Advance registration is requested. Additional education courses are scheduled for New York City, Atlanta, and Washington, DC, later this year.
