Patrick Welker

WelkerPatrick has been retired since February, 2009. His wife, Mary-Jane Welker was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer in October, 2007 and after a three year battle fought with courage, dignity and only thinking of others and not herself, she passed away in November, 2010. Patrick was Mary-Jane’s caregiver during her illness and now volunteers at four cancer organizations including The Foundation for Women’s Cancer.

Patrick previously worked as a senior executive and CEO for several companies in the Telecommunications Industry. Patrick’s greatest joy is helping other people.

Awareness

The CDC recently announced that fewer than half of American children are given the HPV vaccination.

Research

As of the July 23 deadline, 55 research abstracts were submitted in hopes of receiving one of only 6 grants from the Foundation. This points to a need for more funding so that the Foundation may award grants to every deserving applicant.
