The COVID-19 pandemic may have canceled a number of previously scheduled in-person sporting events, but the I Am the Storm Distance Challenge is available to runners, walkers and cyclists at any time, any place. I Am the Storm offers three options for participants to challenge themselves—a 5K Run/Walk, 100 Mile Distance Challenge and a 100+ Mile Bike Challenge. The race fee for each event is $29 plus a $2.50 sign up fee. Registration ends Feb. 28, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. CST. Any funds raised outside of the registration fees will benefit the FWC.
I Am the Storm Distance Challenge founder Tom Jordan created this event in honor of his colleague Roberta, who was recently diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer. Roberta’s cancer was caught early and she is currently undergoing treatment. According to the event website, “This event is a celebration of our strength. Of our ability to overcome obstacles and challenge the mountains that lie before us. If you’re running in honor of a friend or loved one, or celebrating your own victory over cancer, health challenges, abuse, or any of the challenges live throws at us, this is your event!”
Challenge participants are invited to register for either the 5K Run/Walk, 100 Mile Distance Challenge, or the 100+ Bike Challenge (race swag will be shipped to their home address). This is a challenge for all levels, fitness and abilities, so the mileage can be broken up over multiple workouts throughout the day, or multiple days, just as long as participants keep track of their time and enter their total time. Workouts can be logged on the results page and posted on the event Facebook Page. Race groups/teams may also participate; for additional details, visit the I Am the Storm Distance Challenge website.
